New Castle Cross Country Series
The objective of the New Castle Cross Country
Series is to encourage pilots flying cross country. A
fundamental premise is that pilots learn more, not only by
challenging themselves, by flying farther and faster, but also
by flying as a group, thus learning from each other. This allows
cross country pilots to participate in an education environment,
and to extend their boundaries safely and with the advice and
encouragement of others.
Period:
The scoring period will coincide with the Online
Contest. For 2006 it will be from October 11, 2005 to October
10, 2006.
Submitting:
GPS flight traces are to be submitted to the OLC
(Online Contest). You should register as a member of the Blue
Ridge Soaring Society. Only BRSS scores will be included in the
BRSS Cross Country Series.
Tasking & Scoring:
Rather than being scored on speed, the OLC
emphasizes distance soaring and allows for very flexible
tasking. Distance flights of up to six legs will be accepted.
Scores for the BRSS Cross country series will be based upon the
OLC scores which are based upon the handicapped distance flown,
in kilometers. The essentials of the OLC scoring are as follows:
-
Legs 1 to 4 are scored as 1 point per
kilometer
-
Leg 5 scored 0.8 points per kilometer
-
Leg 6 scored 0.6 points per kilometer
